Independent Employment Advisor

The Independent Employment Advisers initiative aims to support and build on the success of several schools in the Hunter Valley. The program provides flexible and supportive learning environments for students who have a history of poor educational experiences. Independent Employment Advisers work intensively with students in years 9-12 who are struggling in school, to re–engage them in learning and support their transitions to employment.

The Advisers will work one–on–one and with groups of students to assist them to:

  • Identify a career path they are interested in through transition planning activities and career advise
  • Complete activities to develop skills in the work readiness preparation
  • Explore the variety of education and training pathways availiable for acquiring relevant skills (eg. School-based apprenticeships and traineeships, vocational programs)
  • Establish a link to potential employers and brokering employment opportunities, including work experience, work placements as part of the VET in schools courses, part-time and full-time work.

Independent Employment Advisers work closely with key school staff members, inculding principals and acreer advisers, to identify students who will benefit from participation in the program. Advisers work with schools to develop individualised transition plans that will encourage successful employment outcomes.
