Through the Career and Transition Support Programme, Local Community Partnerships help young people access a range of career development and transition support programmes in their local area.
Local Community Partnerships work with schools, parents, local businesses and career associations to improve the quality of career development and transition support for communities in their region.

Discover Your Future top
TAFE, University, and Hunter/Central Coast Local Community Partnerships work together to host option planning student/parent evenings at Maitland, Cessnock, Tomaree, Muswellbrook, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and the Central Coast. These sessions are for students in Years 8 – 12 and their parents. They aim to provide current career planning information and an opportunity to ask questions and collect printed information.
Hospitality Extension Course – TAFE top

Career Quest top
Year 9 students attend a series of 12 employer led stations where they gain information, from an employer’s perspective, about vital and current career and transition issues. Included at the event are Tax , Banking and financial literacy, support for the DET School to Work program, Driver and Licence matters and a targeted range of particular industry information sessions relevant to each schools’ needs. The event kicks off with a Workwear Fashion Parade and concludes with a student led presentation of the information learnt at the quest.
Mobile Unit – Career Caravan top
There are 2 mobile units that house 4 laptop computers in each, loaded with career research software. They are available for school / TAFE and community event bookings. Young people 13 – 19 years of age and their parents can undertake free career option research and planning when they visit the unit. The Upper Hunter unit has been funded and sponsored by Coal & Allied Community Trust. For bookings or information phone 4931 2777.
P&C information and support top
HVYE staff are currently making contact with P&C groups throughout the Hunter to provide information about Career and Transition Support options, LCP functions and to establish and build communication channels between parents and support agencies.
HRATA Events top
HVYE supports this Regional HRATA Committee by active committee membership and facilitation of 2 way information flow. A school based trainee from the HVYE area won the Regional Vocational School Student of the Year Award 4 years in a row with Kiera Dodds, Yr 12 Cessnock High School reaching and winning the State Award for this category.
Career Adviser event and class support top
HVYE attends and supports regional Career Adviser Network Meetings on a regular basis. Staff assist Career Advisers in schools by sourcing industry guest presenters and by leading information sessions and providing electronic and hard copy career and transition resource materials for schools. Examples include, Year 9 and 10 Careers afternoons, Career Explorer Days, Year 10 VET mornings, targeted industry specific evenings.
Industry Group Meetings and Events top
HVYE supports a range of Business Chambers in our area through active involvement, sponsorship and facilitation of 2 way information flow. HVYE also supports industry specific groups and events e.g. HMEN, Singleton Mine Expo.
Career Market top
HVYE supports market style information stands, arranges student focused active displays and provides mobile career caravan option planning and information for students attending the market. Many of the presenters attending the Career Market have been sourced through HVYE.
Try a Trade events top
HVYE undertakes active involvement in Regional Committee planning and Area specific Committees. By working in partnership with the valuable committees that are drawn from Rotary, Schools, TAFE and Industry, HVYE is able to support the success of Try a Trade events in the Hunter. The Mobile Careers Caravan is available to support Try a Trade events for the LCP area.
Year 10 subject selection nights top
HVYE offers to support all Year 10 school subject selection evenings within our area. Staff attend these events to provide support to students and parents and to provide a wide range of current information.
School/Industry events/projects top
HVYE offer to support/facilitate specific events by harnessing key industry partners that are keen to target identified areas e.g. "Girls Speak Out" & "Careers for Young Men".
Year 10 Metals Program – Hunter V-Tec top
HVYE work in close partnership with Hunter V-Tec and local high schools to match students to this opportunity. The project enhances retention and employment outcomes for students and supports career path planning.
Best Practice Showcase top
An event conducted for the first time in September 2006 enabling teachers, career professionals and the community to share and review at one venue, a range of projects that support option planning for young people from across the Hunter.
Teacher Network Days top
HVYE support school / TAFE VET executive and teachers in their professional development by sourcing and facilitating industry lead sessions, site visits and networking.
Youth Interagencies top
HVYE maintain active membership across the combined youth interagencies in the Hunter. HVYE support and facilitate 2 way communication between the community, school, industry, young people and youth sector partners
